Naxal Varghese Murder Case – IG Laxmana got Life imprisonment

In the Naxal varghese murder case, retired IG of police Lakshmana has been sentenced to Life imprisonment by the CBI special court judge S. Vijayakumar. He has to pay a fine of Rs. 10000, and the same will be given to the family of Naxal Varghese. The court has removed the third suspect DGP vijayan while the first suspect Ramachandran Nair, who killed naxal varghese was died 4 years back due to illness. The 84 year old laxmana was the 2nd suspect of this case.
Varghese was gunned down by police on February 18, 1970.The Judge said the first accused in the case, late CRPF constable P Ramachandran Nair, had committed the act of murder on the command of Lakshmana, second accused, the then Deputy Superintendent of Police.The case was revived a few years ago after Nair confessed in 1998 that he had shot Varghese at the behest of his superiors Vijayan and Lakshamana. Nair, who had said he made the confession to clear his conscience, died in 2006.Lakshamana will be taken to the Thiruvananthapuram central jail today after completing the formalities at the Ernakulam sub jail where he was lodged yesterday.
